Recent data from Lands of America records $690 million in land and ranches for sale in Pennsylvania. This represents some 109,373 acres of Pennsylvania land for sale. The average price of land listed for sale in Pennsylvania was $625,590. Lands of America research shows that over half the land in the Keystone State is privately owned. Outdoor journal Seneca Creek recently pegged Pennsylvania as one of the country's "Top 3 Fly-fishing States," and it's hard to disagree with this assessment. Species including trout, steelhead and panfish swim in more than 85,000 miles of streams and rivers, along with 4,000 inland lakes and ponds. The state is home to 480 species of wild birds and wild mammals, many of which can be hunted on almost 1.5 million acres of state game lands. In terms of size, Pennsylvania is the country's 33rd-largest state, covering an area of 46,058 square miles (29 million acres). Of its total landmass, 44,743 square miles (97 percent) of the state is land, while the remaining 1,312 square miles comprises water. Approximately 15 percent is considered public land such as national and state parks, national forestland or other federally protected land. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Pennsylvania. Of Pennsylvania's 67 counties, Tioga County had the most land and farms for sale, while Crawford County was trending recently as the county with the most land sales recorded through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.
